Heartland Offering 'Round-the-Clock Mammograms during "Mammo-Thon"

Heartland staff hopes to perform more than 125 mammograms during continuous 24-hour program.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) It's a 24 hour mission to raise awareness about breast cancer.

Heartland Health is participating in its 3rd annual Mammo-Thon.

Healthcare professionals will be available through the overnight until 6 p.m. Saturday evening performing mammograms on patients.

Staff hopes more than 125 women will go through the cancer screening procedure through the night.

They say they hear lots of reasons why women don't get mammograms.

"Don't have the time, they work 9 to 5," said Kristin Thatcher, a Breast Health Nurse at Heartland. "That's the time that most of the hospital's faciliy's are open. Maybe financial concerns, so we have a lot of resources that's kind of helping that way as well."

All women 40 and older are urged to have a yearly mammogram.
