(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A St. Joseph man will go to prison after pleading guilty to stealing from a historic home.

Clint Mechling was sentenced to seven years in prison and ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution.

Mechling was charged with burglary after stealing an estimated $10,000 worth of artifacts over several visits to the Vineyard House located just east of downtown St. Joseph.

Police say Mechling caused another $10,000 of damage to the house during his burglaries.

Mechling was caught after someone who had been looking after the vacant home spotted him walking down the street with some of the stolen items.
