Northwest (17-5, 12-1 MIAA) took control of the game in the first half grabbing a 45-28 halftime lead, and shot 56.6-percent from the field in the game.
Missouri Western (9-12, 4-9 MIAA) ran into trouble early. Already with forward Dzenan Mrkaljevic not suited up for the game, Charlie Marquardt -- the Griffons only other true post player on the team -- injured his right leg in the first half, and did not return. The Bearcats took advantage outrebounding Western 36-25 and outscoring them in the paint 36-28.
Northwest senior Deshaun Cooper led all scorers with 23 points on 6-10 shooting. Dillon Starzl added 14 points and eight rebounds. The Bearcats finished with five players scoring in double figures.
Cortrez Colbert paced Missouri Western with 18 points on 6-10 shooting and five rebounds. Kalvin Balque chipped in with 15 and Ryan Devers had 10 points.
This was the second consecutive game that the Bearcats scored 92 points, and the sixth time this season they've dropped 91 or more.
Missouri Western is back on the road Saturday in St. Louis playing Lindenwood, while Northwest plays Lincoln in Jefferson City.
The Griffs and Bearcats will meet again in St. Joseph on February 22nd.
