(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Two public pools in St. Joseph will remain closed this summer due to a lifeguard shortage.

The City of St. Joseph announced Tuesday that Hyde and Krug pools will not open this year.

The news follows a search for lifeguards that included a recruiting campaign. The City even increased the pay rate for lifeguards in an effort to staff the pools at Hyde and Krug.

The City Council plans to discuss the future of the pools during an upcoming work session later this month. They will invite residents to share their thoughts during a series of public meetings.

The St. Joseph Aquatic Park remains open, with the season ending August 17.
