(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) The St. Joseph Police Department is investigating the death of a 23-month-old at Oak Ridge Apartments this past weekend. The death has been deemed suspicious until it can or cannot be determined as criminal. The police department is questioning several people and is looking into different leads as to what caused the death of the child. The investigation is not expected to be completed for another several days.
"Anytime that you have a small child's death the starting point is always, it is treated as suspicious until such time as you can eliminate that," said Prosecuting Attorney Dwight Scroggins, Jr.
An autopsy was finished Monday, August 18th. The results won't be discussed until there is a final autopsy report which could take days to weeks.
