Jumping Jack Becomes Official State Exercise

Students and staff at Pershing have spent the past six years working toward the distinction.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Hard work and patience by a St. Joseph elementary school has paid off.
 
Thanks, in large part, to Pershing Elementary students, the jumping jack is the official state exercise of Missouri.

Governor Jay Nixon made signed the bill into law Thursday.
 
Students and staff at Pershing have spent the past six years working toward the distinction.
 
Missouri native and school namesake, General John J. Pershing, is credited for inventing the exercise.
 
The law takes effect August 28.
