KC Police Search for Answers after Finding Baby's Body in Trash Truck

They made the discovery while on their regular pick-up route early this morning. Investigators don't know the baby's age or sex yet and they're not sure where along the route it came from
(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) Police in Kansas City are investigating after garbage workers made a gruesome discovery Monday.

The workers called police after they found a dead baby in the back of a garbage truck.

They made the discovery while on their regular pick-up route early this morning.

Investigators don't know the baby's age or sex yet and they're not sure where along the route it came from.

Neighbors are heartbroken.

"It was just incredibly sad event. I feel for the person who didn't have any resources or didn't know what the resources were in the community, and this is how they chose to deal with their problem that they obviously needed help with," said Dia Matthews, neighbor.

In Missouri, parents who don't think they can care for a new baby are allowed to leave that baby with an employee at any medical facility, fire department, city or county health department.

Police are investigating the baby's death as a homicide.
