LeBlond's Dickens Signs with Creighton

Dayle Dickens signed her letter of intent to run cross country at Creighton on Monday.
(ST. JOSEPH) Dayle Dickens has had a busy athletic career at Bishop LeBlond, and now it's guaranteed to continue at the next level.

The senior signed her letter of intent to run cross country at Creighton on Monday afternoon in front of teammates, fellow students, and family in Grace Gymnasium at the high school.

Dickens has competed in cross country for the Eagles over the past two years and is a three-time state qualifier in track & field. She helped LeBlond capture the Class 2 state softball championship last fall and is also a two-year starter in basketball.

She said she also considered the University of San Diego and St. Louis University, but landed on the Omaha-based school as the right fit.

"I went down and visited and loved the campus," she said. "I really liked the coach and got to meet the runners who'll be my teammates. They seem like really awesome girls and just people I could see myself having fun with over the next four years and competing."

In their first year under Matt Rogers, the Creighton women finished seventh in their first trip to the Big East Cross Country Championships in 2013.

"They are rebuilding, but in the first year they've already made huge improvements. (Rogers) was looking for leaders so I think that's what made them what to sign me."
