Livingston County Sheriff Warns of Email Scam

LIVINGSTON CO., Mo. -- A new scam is sweeping parts of northwest Missouri and authorities want everyone to be aware.

The Livingston County Sheriff's Department said the scam involves an email that claims a service you subscribe to is being shut off.

The email is designed to look like it is from a legitimate company, such as a television entertainment provider.

The email offers a link to submit personal data and credit card information.

The scam is not a new way of obtaining information, but Sheriff Steve Cox says it "appears to be a different twist and a little more tempting for some to become a crime victim."
