Local Church Focuses Service on LGBT Issues

Zion United Church of Christ held the service on Sunday morning.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A St. Joseph church held a special worship service Sunday morning as part of pride weekend in town.

Zion United Church of Christ focused their service Sunday on being a fully welcoming congregation for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

The service included communion for all those who wished to participate.

Pastor Donna Ross says more and more churches are becoming more welcome to the LGBT community.

She says their church welcomes people no matter where they are in life.

"It is important that lesbian, gay bisexual, and transgender know that there are houses of faith that will welcome them, that will love them, that will not condemn them, that will not judge them," Ross said.

Ross says the church was the first one in St. Joseph to become an open and affirming church through the United Church of Christ.
