Joseph Wayde Solomon, 26, is charged with felony stalking.
Police say the woman was running along Ashland Avenue around 9:00 a.m. Wednesday when she noticed a man in a black Dodge Ram truck following her.
The man allegedly continued to follow her for more than three miles before the woman called police.
"She noticed something that didn't look right and she kept seeing a similar vehicle," said St. Joseph Police Department Sgt. Greg Gilpin. "She did the right thing. She called the police."
Police later arrested Solomon who was also found guilty of stalking in July of 2011.
Those who walk in the area say they're happy he's off the streets but say they're still on edge.
"It kind of takes away from some of the joy of walking on the street here," said Susan Punzo. "Just hate to see anything happen here."
Police are now reminding anyone who plans to go out and exercise to always carry a phone.
"I'm always seeing people out on the trails who many times are jogging wearing their headphones," said Gilpin. "They don't know what's going on around them. Some of those trails are right next to the streets so they wouldn't hear a car coming at them or a mean dog or a person who's approaching them."
Despite the scare, Punzo says she'll continue to walk along Ashland but not without her furry friends to protect her.
"I think they would bark at a person and they just might think twice about approaching somebody who has a dog with them especially two dogs," she said.
