Maxine Beatrice Gilley, 94, of St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at a local health care facility.

Maxine Beatrice Gilley, 94, of St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at a local health care facility.

She was born March 1, 1920 in St. Joseph to Lorene Belle (Brown) and Isaac Brott.

On September 24, 1938, she married Fred Alfred Gilley. He preceded her in death in 1997.

Maxine worked at Whitaker Cable and retired from Quaker Oats. She had attended Wesley United Methodist Church and was a Christian.

Maxine was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Charles Brott and Carroll “Babe” Brott; and sister, Marcelle Brott, and infant grandson, Michael Joseph Gilley.

Maxine is survived by sons, Freddie L. Gilley (Helen Jo) of St. Joseph; Steven D. Gilley of Overland Park, Kansas; and Dennis W. Gilley of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter, Beverly “Susie” A. Hirter (JR./Louis) of St. Joseph; ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Wanda Weddington and Lorene Brott of St. Joseph; brothers, Dallas Brott of St. Joseph; and Ralph Brott of Phoenix, Arizona and several nieces and nephews.

Services 11:00 AM Monday, March 31, 2014 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.
Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 12:00 Noon Sunday at our chapel, where the family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Hands of Hope Hospice or Donor’s Choice.
