Missouri Lawmakers Pass $2 Million for Rosecrans Levee Repairs

The money would pay to repair levees at Rosecrans Air National Guard Base in St. Joseph.
(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) Missouri lawmakers have included some major money in next year's budget to protect Rosecrans airport.

Lawmakers approved $2 million dollars inserted into the budget by St. Joseph Senator Rob Schaaf.

The money would pay to repair levees at Rosecrans Air National Guard Base in St. Joseph.

Schaaf requested the money because he feared another flood would be the excuse needed to close the base for good.

"If Rosecrans should flood again, there is a great fear that they would just close it because of the cost of the clean up after the floods," said Schaaf. "The levees are still weakened from the first flood, not the last one."

Rosecrans is home to the 139th Wing of the Air National Guard.

The budget now heads to Governor Jay Nixon.
