According to Sgt. Jason Pace with the Highway Patrol, a semi-truck was stopped on Interstate 44 near mile marker 84 Thursday morning for a routine commercial check of the vehicle.
Pace says the suspicious nature of the traffic stop led officers to search the trailer of the semi, revealing marijuana in large black duffel bags.
Each plastic-wrapped bundle is estimated to weigh about 15 lbs and the street value of the haul ranges around $500,000, but could be more, according to Pace.
"Our officers are out there attempting to seize things like this daily," says Pace. "Unfortunately there are a lot of drugs that travel through our country. So, this is consistent with some of the loads we have seized in the past; larger than some and smaller than some. This is probably a bit larger than what we've seen recently."
The truck driver is currently being held in the Greene County Jail.
