Missouri Western 78, William Jewell College 55
Cortrez Colbert and Ryan Devers led Missouri Western (3-1) to a dominating win over William Jewell in Friday's late game from the Hillyard Tipoff Classic.
Down 4-1 in the first half, Devers willed the Griffons with ten of the next 14 points to take a 18-4 lead. The junior guard finished with 18 points, three assists and no turnovers. Colbert led all scorers with 22 points on 9-16 shooting.
Missouri Western owned a 23 point halftime lead holding William Jewell to just 22-percent shooting from the field.
The Griffons face Midwestern State Saturday at 8:30pm in the final game of the classic.
No. 13 Midwestern St. 78, Northwest 71
Northwest held a six point lead over No. 13 Midwestern State with more than seven minutes left in the game, but was outscored 23-10 the rest of the way and dropped the Hillyard Tipoff Classic opener 78-71.
The Bearcats (1-2) were led by Dillon Starzl's career-high 27 points and eight rebounds, but it wasn't enough.
The Mustangs held a 38-33 lead at halftime thanks to Monzaigo Williams. Williams scored 25 of his 31 points in the first 20 minutes, and led all scorers.
Northwest led by as many as ten points with 10:55 left in the second half. The Bearcats will play William Jewell College Saturday at 6:30pm on the final day of the classic.
