The calendar is significantly different than years past in that it includes fewer school days, yet more time in class for students.
That will happen because the board approved a plan to almost entirely eliminate early outs and lengthen the school day by just a little bit.
Also approved was a doubling of budgeted snow days from five to ten to prevent the need for make-up days.
"It puts a little more defined plan, barring the inclement weather, to a school calendar and it's much more parent-friendly because of not having the early dismissals," says Jake Long with the school district.
Another big change for the 2014-15 year is high school graduations.
St. Joseph's three public high schools are scheduled for weekday evenings. The schools will graduate their seniors on a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evening instead of a weekend day. Each school will have its own separate evening.
The first day of class next fall will be August 18.
