Jason McClurg, 35, was taken out of the Shannon County Jail around 10:30 p.m. Friday night to watch a fireworks show.
KOLR (WINONA, Mo.) -- An inmate who escaped from the Shannon County Jail is now back in police custody.

The Winona Police Department says Jason McClurg, 35, was taken out of the Shannon County Jail around 10:30 p.m. Friday night to watch a fireworks show.

Winona Police say McClurg was not wearing handcuffs or leg restraints at the time. During the show McClurg took off from the deputy on duty at the jail.

McClurg was charged with first degree murder in May of this year after the death of his wife.

The Winona Police Department, Shannon County Sheriff's Department, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol spent the next few days trying to track McClurg down.

Law enforcement received information through interviews that McClurg might be hiding in a vacant camping trailer in Winona.

When officers responded they located McClurg in the trailer and apprehended him.
