Mustangs GM Muntean Takes Job in Ohio

Rick Muntean will be the next general manager of the Lake Erie Crushers.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) After working to build the St. Joseph Mustangs into a MINK League powerhouse in the team's first five seasons, general manager Rick Muntean is moving back to professional baseball.

Muntean's accepted an offer from the Lake Erie Crushers -- an independent league baseball team -- to be their next general manager.

The move takes him back to his home state. Muntean grew up in Youngstown, Ohio, just about an hour and a half drive away from Avon, Ohio -- the home of the Crushers.

"I haven't lived in Ohio in 33 years," Muntean said. "I've got family back there, I've got cousins back there. That was one allure."

St. Joseph went 28-17 in 2013, and won the MINK League in 2011 and 2012.

Prior to joining the Mustangs, Muntean worked for the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Red Barons, a Philadelphia Phillies affiliate, and the Kansas City T-Bones.

Ky Turner takes over as general manager for the Mustangs.
