MWSU Board of Governors Plan Outdoor Spring Commencement

Students graduating from Missouri Western this spring are getting a change in scenery. The university will have its first outdoor commencement.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Students graduating from Missouri this spring are getting a change in scenery.

The university will have its first outdoor commencement ceremony at Spratt Stadium.

The Board of Governors met Thursday afternoon to discuss spring graduation.

They decided to move the ceremony outside because the Looney Complex, where they usually hold graduations, is too small.

They said the spring graduating class continues to grow and they needed a facility large enough to fit everyone.

"Hopefully if it works out. In the fall, the graduating class, an audience is small enough that we can have it at Looney Complex. But the spring commencement is so large, that we want to allow the graduates to have as many people attend," said MWSU President Dr. Vartabedian.

Spring commencement is scheduled for Saturday, May 10 at 11:00 a.m.
