Dunham has worked for the university for the past 19 years.
He started as an assistant professor and worked his way up to become the university's provost.
Dunham said the move is a personal and professional decision, and that it is difficult for him to leave northwest.
"It's a bittersweet moment for me because I've been here for 19 years. I grew up here professionalism. I'm going to miss Northwest but I am excited about this new opportunity," said Dunham.
Dunham has accepted a position with Rockhurst University in Kansas City as Vice President for academic affairs.
He will start his new position this summer.
