Osborn Students Take Top Prize in "Battle of the Belt" Competition

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A northwest Missouri school has earned recognition for encouraging students to buckle up.

Osborn High School took top honors in the Battle of the Belt competition for the second year in a row.

The Northwest Region Coalition for Roadway Safety honored the school with the Highest Overall Seat Belt Use award for achieving 100 percent seat belt use.

The school received $500 to be used for educational programs.

Osborn High School was one of 150 schools in the competition designed to raise seat belt awareness among teens.

According to MoDOT, the Missouri teen safety belt usage rate for 2011 was only 67%.
