The unique pizza oven arrived at il Lazzarone on 1628 Frederick Avenue late last week.
The oven was built by a fifth generation oven builder in Italy. The floor of the oven is 14 inches thick, made of concrete, and was put together brick by brick.
Owner Erik Borger says there is only 20 to 30 places like his in the United States.
"I've been making pizzas for years. I've had six different ovens, all commercial, even out in my garage making pizza. I'm from New York. This is very different, very special. You have to have an oven like this to produce the same product," he said.
Much of the table wear for il Lazzarone was shipped in from Italy as well.
Borger says the restaurant will be comfortable and casual. The official opening has not yet been set.
