City Awaits Plans for Price Chopper in St. Joseph

Plans to bring a new grocery store to the St. Joseph are at a stand still.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Plans to bring a new grocery store to St. Joseph are at a stand still.

City leaders say they're still waiting on Price Chopper to complete development plans. The grocery store chain will replace the Plaza 8 theater along the Belt Highway.

The movie theater closed last month due to low sales but the city is hopeful plans will follow through for a new supermarket.

"Hopefully, at that point, they'll have all of their plans completed and addressed or will have addressed all staff comments and concerns and be ready for consideration by the planning commission," stated Dustin Smith, St. Joseph city planner.

Part of the project is to demolish the Plaza 8 building to make room for the grocery store. The planning commission will meet again to discuss the supermarket next month.
