Play Promotes Learning During Children's Fair

Parents filled the Civic Arena in Downtown St. Joseph Tuesday for the annual Children's Fair.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Parents in northwest Missouri are learning more about how play can impact their child's development.

They filled the Civic Arena in Downtown St. Joseph Tuesday for the annual Children's Fair.

This is an opportunity for babies to preschoolers to participate in various activities through the day.

The events are fun for the kids, but also important to early childhood development.

They spent time reading in a barn, running an obstacle course and learning at 30 different stations.

"It really is that birth to school age," said Linda Midyett, St. Joseph Youth Alliance. "Those years are so vital to learning and growing and brain development.  So, this is just an opportunity for parents to come get some ideas of what they can do, how they can read a book and expand it to make it a lot more fun and it doesn't cost anything."

The St. Joseph Youth Alliance worked with various groups in St. Joseph to coordinate the free fair.
