Police Investigating after Woman Claims Man Kidnapped Her

A man from the St. Louis area is in custody as police investigate a kidnapping report in St. Joseph.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A man from the St. Louis area is in custody for domestic assault after a woman called police on Tuesday morning claiming he had kidnapped her.

Officers responded to the Conoco Fast Gas on Frederick Avenue near I-29 Tuesday morning for a domestic violence call. When officers arrived, the woman claimed the man was holding her against her will.

Late Tuesday afternoon, police say they did not find any evidence of a kidnapping. The man is still being held for domestic assault, however.

The two had apparently traveled to St. Joseph together from the St. Louis area.

They said they were told there might be a gun involved, but they were unable to locate a firearm during their search of the room.

Both the motel and the gas station did not want to comment on the case.

The prosecutor's office will review the case.
