Roberts Announces Candidacy for Presiding Commissioner

30 year resident of St. Joseph is endorsed by current presiding commissioner R.T. Turner, who is not seeking reelection
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A St. Joseph resident of more than 30 years says he would like to become Buchanan County's next presiding commissioner.

Businessman Harry Roberts announced Tuesday his candidacy for the office.

Roberts is an insurance agent in St. Joseph and has the backing of current presiding commissioner R.T. Turner, who is not running for reelection.

"I'm going to get out and meet with every person I possibly can and see what their concerns are and what their issues are," Roberts said. "I'm going to take the basic steps that are involved in campaigning."

This will be Roberts' first campaign for any elected office.

He will be running against retired businessman Al Purcell, who announced his candidacy in November.
