(ST. JOSEPH) Carlos Rodriguez was a late addition to the St. Joseph Mustangs roster in 2012.
In his return Saturday night, the third baseman laced an RBI double in the 10th inning to lift the Mustangs to a 4-3 win over Sedalia.
St. Joe (16-10) has been through its share of players with third base experience this year. Missouri Western draftees Grant Fink and Kyle Simpson had played the position. Now, Shane Segovia is headed back to Columbia to rehab a hamstring he injured during his junior season at Missouri.
Rodriguez had two hits in five plate appearances in his first start at third.
Robert Greco was back on the mound for Sedalia afte taking the loss the last time they played the Mustangs. He tossed a wild pitch in the first inning to allow Emilio Villanueva to race home from third for the opening run.
The Bombers scored the next three, capped by a third-inning, two-run home run by Nick Delorenze. All tallies came off Brandon Simmons, who pitched all nine innings of regulation, striking out six batters along the way.
The Mustangs chipped away with runs in the next to frames of a passed ball and a Brandon Huske RBI single.
The score would stay knotted at 3-3 until Rodriguez's decisive hit in the 10th.
The team is back on the road Sunday, taking a three-game win streak to Nevada with a 7 p.m. first pitch.
