Salon Preps Teens for Camp Quality Prom

Summer camp provides important rites of passage, and Wednesday campers prepared for a big milestone.
(STEWARTSVILLE, Mo.) Nearly every teenager dreams of that special night when they dress to the nines and join their friends for a night of fun and memories.

Prom is that special moment when teens take their first step into adulthood.

"I like how they have the ideal prom here because most of the kids didn't get to go to their school proms because they were sick, so I kind of like it," said Elizabeth, a camper.

At Camp Quality in Stewartsville, some teenagers have already done a lot of growing up.

They are fighting cancer, but they are not letting it get in the way of their childhood.

Elizabeth is one of those kids, excited for the big dance. She got a makeover Wednesday as local stylists volunteered their skills to style the teens for the camp's prom.

"It's such an honor, first of all, we've been here before and these kids are just amazing," said Patrick Hall of Bliss Salon.

Hall and others spent the afternoon prepping, curling and polishing.

"I love it. I love being pampered," said Elizabeth.

Elizabeth knew exactly what she wanted as she picked colors and styles to show her personality.

"I picked it, it's just me, it screams out me," laughed Elizabeth.

Meanwhile the camp dining hall transformed into Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, giving campers a chance to enjoy the prom that many in their shoes missed.

Camp Quality's prom kicked off Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
