School District Holds Blessing Event at New Schools

Community members got a chance to leave their mark on the St. Joseph School District's first new schools in over forty years.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) The St. Joseph School District invited the community to make their mark on the town's two newest elementary schools on Saturday.

The blessing event was held at both Carden Park and Oak Grove Elementary Schools to give students, parents and members of the community the opportunity to write their names and leave messages on the concrete floor in the school's entrance.

Carpet will be laid over the messages at the end of the ceremony, but the district says it is a way for community members to make their mark on history.

Lacey Adams, the Carden Park princial, says it is a way for everyone to demonstrate something meaningful and have input and ownership over the building.

Many who took part in the ceremony wrote poems and other words of encouragement to students and staff at the new schools.

Carden Park and Oak Grove are the first new schools to be built by the district in more than four decades.
