(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Students from the St. Joseph School District will be featured in a national magazine for kids.

Scholastic, the company known for publishing educational materials for schools will feature Pershing Elementary this fall.

The article will tell about the schools journey as they lobbied to make jumping jacks the official exercise of the state to honor Gen. John Pershing.

Wednesday, photographers from the company were in town to take pictures for the magazine. School leaders say the story illustrates the importance of how hard work pays off.

"If you work hard and have a goal and you're persistent and dedicated that it can become a reality," said Tara Wells, principal of Pershing Elementary.

"General John J. Pershing invented them and he deserves to have this honor," added Dayne Koch, 6th grade student at Pershing who also visited the state's capital to discuss jumping jacks as an exercise.

Leaders of the project were also invited to Jefferson City to discuss the measure. It will become state law August 28th.

The publication featuring the students will be released September 15th.
