St. Joe Organizations Help Locals with Obamacare

Four St. Joseph organizations are helping people sign up for Obamacare.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Local organizations are partnering together to offer free assistance to sign up for Obamacare.

Recent problems with the website have not allowed many people to sign up for the service.

Northwest Health Services, the Center for Aging, Interserv and Heartland Health all have certified application counselors that are meeting with locals.

"We've been out in the community the past couple of months just helping people sign up," enrollment specialist Tyler Graff said.

Graff works for Northwest Health Services and has seen progress in allowing people to go through the registration.

Specialists at Interserv are using paper documents to help people sign up.

"As everyone knows a paper application can be frustrating if you don't have anyone there to answer questions for you," Interserv specialist Rachael Bittiker said.

Bittiker said that while the government wants people signed up by January 1st, people can wait until February 15th to sign up without fear of penalty.

Despite the struggles that people have faced, both Bittiker and Graff recommend that the key is to stay patient.

"It's a marathon not a sprint," Graff said.
