The Edge held a yard sale at its South Belt location Saturday for a wheelchair mission.
The goal is to ship a container of the wheelchairs, made with plastic patio chairs and bicycle tires, to Nicaragua by September.
According to mission organizers, many people who require wheelchairs are ostracized in developing countries. The chairs are also hard to come by and limit options for those with disabilities.
"With this wheelchair, you're able to go to the store or perhaps have a job." And, so it's not just the gift of mobility, but also the gift of being involved in the community and going from outcast to included," Shanen Middendorf said.
