(COLUMBIA, Mo.) Nick Groomer said Friday it's every coach's goal to lead players back where you grew up.

This season, he quietly lead his hometown Stanberry Bulldogs to their first state championship game in 42 years.

The Bulldogs fell just short, however, dropping a 62-60 heartbreaker to Eminence in the Class 1 finale Saturday.

Stanberry had one final chance to win it as time expired, but Cole Gage's three-point attempt was blocked by Eminence's Cole Keeling.

Stanberry got balanced scoring with four players in double figures. Reid Osborn led the team with 14 points, Gage had 12, Jacob Heddinger 11 and Daniel Hailey 10.
