But some students are already back in the classroom.
The St. Joseph School District's summer school program began Wednesday.
Students have the option to use this time to take some fun classes tied to math, art, science and technology. They can also earn credits and get a little extra help if needed.
Either way, they have several weeks of additional schooling ahead.
"The teachers have a certain amount of material they have to cover in the school year. In the summer, they'll still be doing very academic things. They'll be including reading, storytelling and math into any of those what we call enrichment courses," said Charisse Giseburt, summer programs coordinator.
Giseburt said enrollment for summer school has been steady for several years.
Summer school runs until June 19 this year.
