Students Honored for Logging Over 2,000 Volunteer Hours

Five area students reach the pinnacle of a service project for serving others in the community.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) The Optimist Club of St. Joseph honored five students for volunteering in the community through it's 2nd Annual Youth Appreciation Program.

The students were given plaques and gift cards for their efforts. Organizers say they're happy teens want to spend their spare time helping others.

"The students do have many choices of ways to spend their time and we certainly appreciate when they are spending time being productive. We recognize that and get outside of ourselves and serve others is always a good thing," said Lisa Little with the Optimist Club.

Combined, these young students have logged more than 2,000 hours of community service.
