Suspect Charged in Kansas City Highway Shootings

27-year-old Muhammad Whitaker is behind bars, charged with 18 felony counts for shooting into cars and injuring three people.
(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) Residents of Kansas City can rest easy following the apprehension, arrest, and charging of a man who allegedly went on a month long string of random highway shootings.

27-year-old Muhammad Whitaker is behind bars, charged with 18 felony counts for shooting into cars and injuring three people.

Two of the victims were shot in the legs and one in the arm.

On Thursday evening, several dozen officers, including agents from the FBI and the ATF raided a house in Grandview based on more than 100 leads from the community.

Authorities arrested Whitaker, took bags of evidence from the home and towed away a Dodge Neon with Illinois license plates.

"Charges would not have been filed if we were not confident we had the person responsible for the shootings," said Jackson County prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.

Whitaker will be arraigned later on Friday and likely be held on a one million dollar bond.

Police believe they have their man but say the investigation continues.
