(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) St. Joseph residents get an opportunity that does not come around very often: sharing their city with two NFL teams.
The Arizona Cardinals charter buses pulled into the Missouri Western campus around 8:00pm Monday evening. The Cardinals will be in town for a couple days for a joint practice with the Chiefs at their training camp home, before heading to Kansas City for a preseason game on Friday.
It will be Arizona's second exhibition game. The first came on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio.
The Cardinals did not get much time to rest after the opening game. They flew from Ohio to KCI Airport Monday.
Kevin Kolb, one of the guys competing for the Cards' starting quarterback spot, said it is all part of the job.
"We're used to it. Especially this time of year," Kolb said. "We're trying to grind and get better, make sure we are ready for our opener."
Tuesday's practice is the only one between the Chiefs and Cardinals that fans are allowed to watch.
Both teams expect the practice to be a passionate one.
"High intensity I'm sure," Kolb said. "Both teams, lots of guys on the field, lots of guys competing for jobs, so it'll be exciting to see what happens."
"This is our territory, St. Joe you know," Chiefs defensive lineman Glenn Dorsey. "We're going to come out and fight for ours. They're going to fight for theirs. It's going to be fun. I'm excited about it."
The Chiefs and Cardinals will take the practice fields at Missouri Western at 3:15 Tuesday afternoon.
