The Mustangs Clinch the North Division

St. Joseph beats Omaha 7-4 clinching the MINK League North Division on Wednesday.

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) The sparkling grape juice was flowing for the second consecutive season at Phil Welch Stadium as the St. Joseph Mustangs (25-10 MINK) clinched the MINK League North Division with a 7-4 win over Omaha Wednesday night.

The Mustangs are made up of college baseball players from all over the country, so unlike Major League Baseball teams, champagne and beer are not the beverages of choice when it comes to a celebration.

But the grape juice was just as sweet.

"This is awesome, man!" Mark Robinette said after the game, soaking wet from the juice.

Relief pitcher Chris Green shut the door on the Diamond Spirit by striking out Sonny Mastromatteo for the final out.

The strikeout sent the Mustangs into a state of jubilation.

"It's not something you can put into words," manager Matt Johnson said after the game.

St. Joseph also clinched the North Division in 2011.

Second baseman Kyle Simpson paced the Mustangs Wednesday going 3-5 with four RBI.

Patrick Burkhart added two hits, two RBI and two runs in the win.

Adam Maddox allowed four runs, two earned, over 7 1/3 innings. Maddox walked two batters and struck out just one, but recorded his third win of the season.

St. Joe takes its three-game win streak on the road for a doubleheader Thursday against Ozark.

The Mustangs final home games of the season are later this week on Friday and Saturday.
