(MARYVILLE) Northwest held the annual spring football game at Bearcat Stadium on Saturday, resulting in a 17-9 win for the White squad.
The core of running backs showed flashes in the absence of James Franklin, who sat out due to injury. Redshirt freshman Josh Swanson, who moved to running back just this week, accounted for one of the two offensive touchdowns on the day. San Francisco Junior College transfer Robert Burton III also broke a series of lengthy runs.
Tight end Joel Gantz picked up the other score for the White squad.
Defensively, Alex Taylor took an interception back for a touchdown while the unit also accounted for a safety.
Head coach Adam Dorrel pointed to special teams as the main struggle in the game.
"When you don't tackle all spring, it's hard," he said. "But I thought the tackling was pretty good today. We made some plays on both sides and it sounds like we got out injury-free. That's the most important thing."
