The 90-year-old is making a tour of the state to thank Kansans for their support over the years.
Dole spent about an hour answering questions. They ranged from Dole's thoughts on Russian aggression in Ukraine, the Affordable Care Act and partisanship in Washington.
Those who came to see Dole were excited to see him.
"It's like shaking hands with a legend," said Thad Geiger, who helped coordinate Dole's Troy appearance.
"You don't often, especially in rural America, small towns, get to see legends. It would be similar to Michael Jordon showing up if you were a sports fan or a race car driver, somebody of this magnitude is tremendous for a small town like Troy."
Following the question and answer session, Dole took photographs with those in attendance.
Dole will continue his Kansas tour tomorrow with a visit to Atchison.
