Tree Planted in Honor of Missing St. Joseph Girl

The ceremony, held at the site of the last place then-15-year-old Ashley Martinez was seen, comes on the 10th anniversary of the girl's disappearance.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.)  It's been ten years since a St. Joseph teen went missing but now her family is helping keep her memory alive in a unique way.

On Thursday, the City of St. Joseph and the mother of Ashley Martinez planted a tree in her honor next to Krug Park pool.

That was the last place the girl was seen.

Tammy Mack says its been a long ten years without her daughter and the tree gives her a place to come think about Ashley.

"I go through moments I guess you could say," she said. "For the most part, you have to keep going everyday, but it is frustrating. My frustration level is very high."

St. Joseph police say the case is still open. Detectives say they still get tips and leads from time to time about the missing Ashley.

They say they work with national organizations to share information.
