Truck, Body Found in Missouri River Near Atchison

Atchison police say a truck found in the Missouri River Sunday matches the description of a truck tied to a Silver Alert issued earlier this month.
(ATCHISON, Kan.) Atchison police have recovered a truck, belonging to a missing Atchison man, with a body inside from the Missouri River.

Atchison Police Chief, Mike Wilson, confirmed that the truck, found in the river Sunday, belonged to 70-year-old Garry Sandy of Atchison. Police have not been able to identify the body.

Sandy went missing in late-December, prompting a Silver Alert to be issued earlier this month.

Wilson told KQ2 a walker called police around 3 p.m., Sunday after seeing a vehicle in the river.

Police had to wait for a dive team from Lee's Summit to arrive before pulling the truck from the water. Divers struggled with river currents from strong winds as they tried to attach a tow rope to the truck.
