Western Ready for Rush of Chiefs Fans

The Chiefs will hold its first open practice Thursday at Missouri Western.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Fans are closer to getting their first look at the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs will hold its first open practice Thursday at Missouri Western.

Veterans players began moving into the dorms on campus Wednesday afternoon.

For the next three weeks, Missouri Western will be the home of Chiefs training camp.

Last year, more than 3,000 fans turned out to see team on the first day of practice.

Western officials say they're expecting another big turnout on Thursday.

"Now a little bit different than last year as the opening day of camp was on Friday so this year it's on Thursday. Now will that have an impact? I don't think so. It's still kind of the prelude to the weekend for a lot of folks and again, coming off last year it's gonna be exciting and we look forward to a big crowd tomorrow," said Associate Athletics Director Brett Esely.

Thursday's open practice is free to the public but there is a $5 parking fee.

"American Family" Fun Day

Chiefs fans should mark their calendar for a special event.

The "American Family" Fun Day will be held Saturday, July 26.

The special practice gives fans a chance to get autographs from the entire team.

Admission is $5 except for kids three and under.

Practice begins 8:15 a.m.

More than 6,000 fans showed up to Family Fun Day last year.
