District Seeks Ideas from Public on Names for New Schools

The St. Joseph School District hopes the community can help with the process of picking the names for the two new schools.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) The two new schools under construction in St. Joseph will eventually bear names.

The St. Joseph School District hopes the community can help with the process of picking those names.

The District is asking for suggestions for the northeast school located at Cook and Bishop Roads and the Carden Park school at 16th and Duncan Streets.

Ideas can be submitted through an online form or through the school district's website. Suggestions can be made by phone to Brian Shindorf by calling 816-671-4000. Forms will also be available for parents at their child's school.

Anyone with ideas should also include why they recommend the name they submitted. According to the District, Board of Education guidelines suggest school names should be: presidents; statesmen or heroes of national, state and local fame; national, state or local educators; community or civic leaders; or geographic regions or locations.

Suggestions will be accepted through Dec. 20. A committee will narrow the list and submit the top five choices to the board for a final decision.

The new schools are scheduled to open by next fall.
