Families, Friends Gather to Remember Loved Ones Lost

The Victim's Memorial Tree is located on the north side of the Buchanan County Courthouse.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Families and friends gathered in the dark, cold and wind Tuesday evening to pay tribute to victims of crime.

They met for a candlelight vigil at the Victim Memorial Tree at the Buchanan County Courthouse to remember those who have been lost.

They sang, prayed and remembered their lost loved ones. It's an important event for those who attend.

"There are a lot of tight bonds with the families here because it's something truly different and traumatizing that these people have gone through," said Morgan Hansen, the victim advocate for the Buchanan County Prosecutor's Office.

"These families connect and understand how each other's feeling," she said.

The Victim Memorial Tree is on the north side of the courthouse and is covered in lights.
