Expo planners on Thursday coordinated with Buchanan County commissioners on the application for almost $5 million of state tax credits.
Financing for the $70 million development is still ongoing. A capital campaign is in progress, but everyone agrees it will be big for St. Joseph when it's done.
"The Expo itself would bring people in every week to stay in our hotels and to spend money in our restaurants," said presiding commissioner R.T. Turner. "It would be a big exonomic boom for us."
The 150-acre Ag Expo Center will be off of Highway 36 near Interstate 29. Included in the center will be a life sciences park, retail space and a farmer's market.
It is expected crews will break ground on the project early next year.
