(CLARK COUNTY, Mo.) After harvesting a deer Saturday, Gov. Jay Nixon is encouraging Missouri hunters to share their harvests.

Gov. Nixon took an 11-point buck while hunting in Clark County. He then donated the venison to Missouri's Share the Harvest program.

The program is a public-private partnership that provides meat to families in need.

Last year, hunters donated more than 318,000 pounds of venison through Share the Harvest.

The program has seen increased donations after taking in 206,701 pounds in 2009.

Share the Harvest partners the Conservation Federation, the Missouri Department of Conservation and regional food banks, pantries and meat processors.
