Group Helps Seniors With Medicare D

A local organization is helping locals with Medicare D enrolling.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Interserv hosted free consultations at East Hills Library on Thursday.

The consultations were to help seniors understand Medicare D.

Their goal was to help determine the best prescription drug plans by need.

Medicare D covers drug coverage only. Interserv's goal was to help people save money by choosing a plan that accommodates the drugs they take.

"Drugs are very expensive and I don't know of anybody that could probably afford, if they were on quite a few drugs...if there wasn't help through Medicare Part D," volunteer Terry Wickham said.

Interserv said many people don't know they have options.

"It is a shame that anyone should have to pick and choose what drugs are available to them based on their income," Interserv's Brandy Meeks said.

Interserv hosts open meetings at their Calvin Center on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The deadline to sign up for Medicare during open enrollment is December 7th.
