Highway Patrol Investigates Fatal Shooting Involving Buchanan County Deputy

An unidentified person was fatally shot in an incident involving a deputy with the Buchanan County Sheriff's Department.
(AMAZONIA, Mo.) The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal shooting involving a deputy with the Buchanan County Sheriff's Department.

It happened Thursday night around 11 p.m. just west of K Highway in Amazonia.

Buchanan County Sheriff Mike Strong says the shooting was a result of an investigation that began in Buchanan County and ended in Amazonia.  There, two deputies confronted the subjects and the shooting occurred.

According to Sheriff Strong, one deputy was taken to the hospital and examined before being released, however, he would not elaborate on how the deputy was injured. Strong said the deputy is on administrative leave during the investigation.

No information is being released on the identity of the man who was killed.

Andrew County Sheriff Bryan Atkins turned the investigation over to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
