He was born on July 12, 1947 in St. Joseph to Frederick A. and Evangeline E. (Keller) Rotterman. John married Becky Latham Shearman on October 25, 2002 in Savannah and she survives of the home.
John was the Andrew County Commissioner of the Eastern District. He and wife, Becky, were the owners of Savannah Family Pharmacy and of a small family farm in rural Andrew County. John served his country in the 101st Airborne and the 10th Special Forces. He was a graduate of Savannah High School and Southern Tech, Marietta, Ga. He was of the Methodist faith and attended the Savannah United Methodist Church. He was a past President of the Pony Express Historical Society as well as a lifetime member. He currently served on the Board of the Andrew County Museum. John was a member of The Border War Society, and a lifetime member of the Robidoux Row Museum and the Kansas City Posse. He was a frequent guest speaker on local history stages on subjects including Northwest Missouri history, the Border War and the Civil War. He was a member of the Savannah Chamber of Commerce, a Charter member of Andrew County Rotary, currently a member of the St. Joseph Downtown Rotary. John was a member of several boards pursuant to his public office. He served on the Andrew County Republican Central Committee.
Survivors include his wife Becky; son, Kevin Shearman of Union Star; one sister, Dixie & Daniel Darnell of Columbia; one niece and nephew, Aubrey & Zachery Darnell both of Columbia, MO; sibling, Carrie Sue Lacy of Savannah.
Memorial visitation will be from 4-7 pm at Breit-Hawkins Funeral Home of Savannah on Saturday July 20, 2013 with military honors to conclude visitation at 7pm. Mr. Rotterman has been cremated.
